I don’t need a DSLR to show you how worn out I am.

I’m sorry for the lack of updates. I was running about (literally),up and down the hill for interviews and to cover protest in the city. Soon enough I’ll start my own protest, as suggested, against people protesting on holidays. Just yesterday I was at the HK airport for an air crash emergency training hosted by Cathay Pacific. Had one night free stay at the Regal Hotel. Training starts at 5am and made it back to uni for classes 2pm. I’d have swore nastily if there’s no 100HKD payment. Currently, I’m working on my term paper(s) due in 2 weeks time. Its so bloody cold, my fingers freeze the moment I start typing. Hostel warden saved me big time for lending me her super thick sweater. Its freakin Hong Kong, nobody would have thought that it would go as low as 6 degrees Celsius. The paper says its the coldest november in 11 years. Fantastic isn’t it? =.= The sun is finally out today, at least some warmth to go with the cold wind.

Joint University Media Profession Exhibition (JUMP EX) 2009, 大专联校传播作品展由中大、珠海、浸会、树仁、城大五间大专的新闻与传播系学生联办。我本来也不太清楚是干什么的，反正department那里发了mass mail征求参展作品，所以就把自己的online portfolio发了给它们，还没想到真的被选上了！

这次的展览主题是[问]。照片里看到的logo像是一双手放在嘴边大喊，还挺有趣的。展览作品有摄影、短片、装置艺术、美术、新闻片断，大部分都出自新闻系学生。

先讲讲展览地点吧，在土瓜湾牛棚艺术村，连本地学生都不会去的角落，看google map也觉得超偏僻的地方，居然有地方是地铁到不了的！咱们是在大学站搭港铁到沙田站，再搭45分钟的巴士，再走15分钟才到的，远死了。

对不起，忍不住弄了一下。

无关痛痒的生活照：

鸡蛋糕，现在就25度了，手脚很冰。天文台还说星期二会降温。。。再降我要在房间起火堆camp fire 了！

上星期老师带我们到亚洲八卦的发源地——苹果日报。虽然苹果在大马的形象是超强狗仔队，但是他们报馆的运作可不是开玩笑的。那天去的时候是下午，突发新闻的部门几乎是空着的，全都驻守在香港各个地区了。另一个很有趣的就是美术部，就是负责画连环图、插图和像粘土捏出来的人形画，还有修饰照片。Photo editing我看了觉得还好，不太陌生，但是速度远远落后他们，三四分钟一张照片。都尽量不多加，不减少图里的东西，不然要加上‘设计图片’的标签。 那里不让我们照相，就只有这些了。

啊！？我的手怎么看起来比我老十年？！

调景岭是苹果日报的地点，挺偏僻的，港铁的最后一站

昨天去面试了一个叫‘香港求职责协会’的记者培训计划，它是个非盈利组织，专门替大学生做career match。把中大新闻系的学生集在一起出版一本给中学生看的名人专访，让大人物说说成功之道，更重要的是让学生看看老板要什么样的员工。这是初步大纲，我个人觉得如果全都是CEO在讲话有点枯燥，看看是否能加入更多有趣却被冷落的行业。我参加这个的最终目的除了想边做边学积经验，也希望从中了解这个城市。（地方那么小，却什么乱七八糟的事都发生。（Loads of epic stories to read off the paper everyday XD）

才来还不到一个月就要做实地采访，紧张死了。不过还算过得去，至少那份稿成功在午夜十二点前传给老师。（呃...11.59pm clicked send，心脏病啊！~）

这次和以前不一样的是身份，从摄影师成了记者。一开始时会常忘了除了拍照还要做笔录和访问，还好跟Susan一组，而且事先有协调好，我拍照，她录音。每次看到她低头写字就会想到我该放下相机了。我和Susan，两个广东话都说得歪七扭八的，录音笔是我们俩的秘密武器。受访者说广东话太快，没关系，回去听录音，狂重播就有啦！不过，不得不承认，这样子依赖录音笔的习惯很不好，等哪天忘了带出门就完了。 

刚到中环遮打花园时，看见班上的同学都开始找民众作采访。我们不想那么快就碰钉子，所以就找了个意大利人聊聊天，用英文热热身。再来就找几个看起来比较善良的，过后才找有特色一点/口号喊得很激动的本地人。那时也幸好Susan耳尖，听到一个说中文的游行人士，一问，原来是内地的亚洲人权保护中心的员工。Susan上海人，跟内地的说话顺利许多。哦，还有，那天我们无意间找到游行的领导人做采访，根本不知道他是谁，问了他一堆莫明其妙的话。回到宿舍一查wikipedia，我的妈啊！！！！是人称长毛的梁国雄(下图拿麦者)！我们真是丢人现眼啊！！！.....连八度空间华语新闻也有提到他啊！ 呜呜呜呜~ T___T 以后可要做全面的背景搜索才出门了。

到最后游行队伍走到了中联办，把玫瑰花和黑丝带绑在铁栅后和平散去。可是中间发生了挺可怕的警民冲突。警方不让棺材过，只让人接近中联办。人家在北京大肆庆祝国庆，你抬个棺材来...XD 结果有三个被捕了。当场一起一阵骚动，我们老师好似赶羊群地，把我们一群学生集合在安全区，高呼：“够了！五点半收工，回去看6点新闻收尾！”。才怪咧！剧情的高潮来了，怎可能就这样回去？还是看完了才回去赶稿。

回到去中大6.45pm，在火车站草草解決晚餐，和susan到我房间草草洗个澡，把电脑搬到她房间开工时，已经8.30pm了。把录音弄一弄，重播、搜索、起草稿、对证人物背景，到要真正开始写时10.30pm。手心出汗，打字手抖，猛看手表。。。。。SEND，欢呼！！！！！！然后精神亢奋地把照片处理到凌晨四点才睡觉。然后想想，这只是一天实习，入行后是每天都要这样啊！！！！

中秋过几天就到了，多讽刺啊。。。

 

这次亲眼目睹、亲身体验800多人的游行，现场的气氛会让人激动。以前从来不知道喊口号原来有这样的功能。其中最让我起鸡皮疙瘩的场景，就是看到绑在玫瑰花上的标签写着“陈XX ，二十二岁，大学生”。没错，是六四事件中牺牲的年轻人。

近来发生了好多事，好想都把他们写下来。开始觉得时间不够用了，我会尽量多写。拜托各位不要放弃这里啊! 我会尽力的！>.<

Sorry for the delay on updates, been busy getting things done. HK ID, course registration, buying textbooks, figuring out my daily routine, doing laundry, thinking of how to feed myself the next morning (no, I’m not broke.Its simply deciding between to eat in the room or drag my ass out of bed for breakfast in the canteen), and most of the time….remembering faces and names. So often where people yell “ Hey Jaqueline!!!!~” with this facial expression =D as if they’ve known me for a long time and I’ll yell back “Hey!!~” =D *avoid name* then try to chat  and get a clue where I met this dude. Milo here taste different. Powdery, artificial, unauthentic taste. Not that I know how authentic Malaysia Milo is, but still, its not the same. I’m ordering a suitcase of Milo from home, thanks Ma! XD

Finally we got to come out from the hill to the city!  Special thanks to Ah Bong, local student, for bring us around. This time we went to Avenue of Stars, fantastic night scene!! 

忙着适应这里的生活，更新得没那么频密，抱歉，我尽量吧！我得还算OK，很多东西都上轨，正常运作了。只是很讨厌要囤积超多脏衣服才能拿去洗，不然想起来就觉得亏大了！HKD4洗衣半个小时、脱水HKD2五分钟、烘干机更贵，懒得算啦，反正就是一次过洗很多才划算。吃早餐就要想想到底要窝在房间喝杯麦片了事，还是下楼解决。同学都很友善，广东话真的真的好实用，没有了语言障碍比较容易和人家攀谈。哦对了，我爱大马Milo, 喝Milo长大的，一喝就知道有什么分别。妈，下次来看我时多拿一个行李箱装满Milo给我，谢啦！

在到香港之前我在网上搜索过关于什么是“大、细O”这个东西，正是他们举办给大学新生的迎新营。看来还不错的，反正到了个新地方多认识当地人也很重要，才不至于孤苦伶仃。不过，我不知道的是这个迎新营是多半给本地学生的，教务处那里竟然什么都没说，我再问得时候还告诉我是本地和外国学生一起参加的。好啦，当天入营时拖着个大行李，超懊恼的！眼看人家全都是背个背包，我....无地自容 T__T

除了以上，大O还算不错，庆幸本地的学生都很友善。阿弥陀佛，还好平时有看港剧学学广东话，不然我真的是要4天3夜跟空气讲话了。能够以他们惯用的语言沟通才有机会打开话匣子，对于各自生活背景上的差异，咱们都觉得新奇。香港人很爱用简写（contact lens = CON ; canteen=CAN; demo= DEM)，他们则认为广东话在大马是很稀有的。马来西亚这里俗称“马拉”，所以我每次自我介绍都要加上“我系马拉来ge”。跟他们腻在一起玩了几天感觉跟家里没两样，很亲切。组里的师兄姐都改称为“组爸妈”，新生就叫“组仔女”。当决定我到这里升学就打算把这辈子存有的运气quota全赌上了，还好没有浪费。谢谢你们啦！！没有你们照顾，我真的不知道自己何去何从！下星期组聚见！（听说是去旺角吧..）

I googled about the university orientation camp, seems fun. I thought that making local friends would be a great start in a foreign land, well at least you wont end up alone. So anyway I signed up for the orientation camp without knowing that its meant for mostly the local students. The admission office even told me that its a mix of both local and international students.MY FOOT! Turns out i'm the only international student and the furthest I could find is a girl from Macau, I got along with her pretty well though,being noobs. So yea, everyone was with a backpack unlike me carrying a 35kg luggage parading through the crowd. Face? GONE.

Other than the luggage embarrasment, it was pretty fun. Thank god I used to watch TVB drama and picked up some useful Cantonese or I'll be talking to myself for 4 days 3 nights.Without the language barrier,talking to the locals was very interesting. They taught me lots of stuff. Both of us were very curious about each other's background and talking helps a lot. Hongkee likes to use short forms (refer to above) and they think Cantonese is some ulu language in Malaysia. They call us "Malai" for short. The moment I've decided to be here, I was ready to bet my lifetme quota of luck on it. Totally worth while. Thanks again to my team mates for taking care of me, what would I do without you people!? See y'all next week in reunion! (heard that we're going Mong Kok,are we?)

过后我搬进了国际学生舍堂，也在那里交了各国的朋友，这次有四个马来西亚人和一个新加坡人，想念到半死的新马英语再次出现，连续说了四五天的广东话挺折腾的，终于有机会听听家乡话。再来就是HK City Tour,这个比较舒服，没什么走动，坐在巴士里像个旅客。至于照片呢，全都在美蓉（另一个大马女生，暂时是我的室友，也是被派进新亚学院，太好了！）那里，我的东西还在包包里，挖出来比较麻烦。

I moved into the international student hostel after camp. Met many people from all over the world and finally get to talk our Manglish/Singlish when I’ve made contact with Malaysians and a Singaporean. Some from China and Macau and a few from the west. Switching from language to language is tiring. Went for the HK city tour, quite pleasant, minimal walking, nice FREE food. Don’t have much photos with me, Mei Yong (M’sia girl) took most of them for us.I left my camera back in the hostel, too much of a hassle to dig it out.

Of all things one should not do when away from home, I’ll say its self-doubt. I keep wondering why the hell did I choose this country in the first place. Not only I think to myself, but also to answer when the local student ask. But then again, I’m already here, the only way out is suck it up and learn. Its my first week in Hong Kong. Still blur about how the little things in their daily lives function. But for now, it’s probably not thc changes in environment that’s bothering me.I don’t know what is it. The locals are nice and I’ve been seeing faces which reminds me of home. My orientation camp roomie, is also Jacqueline. Looks 80% like Nichelle. Saw a Wei Jian look alike on the train and loads of random Malaysians I know. The brain still thinks that we’re in Boleh Land,lol. Ironically, the local thinks I’m one of them if I kept quiet about my nationality.(lol, I’ll assume that my canto speaking sounds local enough XD) The fact that I’m here in an unfamiliar land hasn’t sunk in yet, hopefully this difficult transition period goes by smoothly.

Alright,enough with the emo thoughts. Just a not-so-brief update for my family to see.

Pa & Mi,
I’m okay, just that the procedure went a little haywire, there are lots of New Asia seniors helping me and even let me sleep in their room when I have no where else to go before the move in date. So right now the biggest concern which is accommodation is taken care of, Isaac is helping me,don’t worry. There are still lots of bits and pieces to pick up here, I can manage them. The biggest advantage I have is being able to speak a few languages. So yea, see ang mo speak English, see Hong Kee speak canto, see china men speak Mandarin. Asking around makes life easier rather than looking at the stupid instruction manual. I’ve been taking my vitamins and eating regularly, no fast food, lots of water, had char siew fan for lunch yesterday and chicken porridge. Its always sunny here, but not as hot as Malaysia, very breezy being on top of the mountain. Ms. Annie from admission department invited me to dinner on today, so I’ll be speaking to her hopefully to clarify as many things as possible.

When I went to submit my course major selection form, they told me Chinese new writing class is full and I’ll have to go into the English class, the worst part is that I can’t switch back to join the Chinese class next semester, meaning my 3 year degree will be in English. I’m not gonna take “no” for an answer if the teaching content is totally different. I’ve asked a journalism senior, she said I have more than enough reasons to ask the professor to open another place for me,chances are high. I’ll go talk to Mr. Chow and see what comes up. By hook or by crook, I’ll make sure I get myself in.

Oh by the way,I was teaching my group how to swear in Malay during lunch, haha,typical. It took them a while to bring themselves to make such a request,like “um…erm…do you Malaysian have special terms for swearing? You know how to swear in Malay?”. So yea, the whole table was trying to pronounce words like PKM and CB loudly in a restaurant and I pray hard that there’s no Malaysian or Singaporean present.

I’m missing the feeling of being so sure of how things works in Malaysia. It is scary to be left all alone with zero contact with the people I know. Not that the people aren’t nice, they answer all my questions, even the lame ones. Its a pain in the ass reading their style of writing. They’re Chinese words but written in how you speak Cantonese e.g. Keng Gai = 倾计= chat

I think that’s all for now, don’t want to blind my readers with bad English. I’ve taken some pictures during the HK tour, let me get all the important things done and I’ll update. I love you!~

剩下少过一星期的时间，老实说，我很懒得收拾行李，就觉得好像没什么好带的，衣物不够随时可以在那里血拼，搞不好收获更丰富。这几天就到处晃晃，跟朋友吃吃饭、聊聊天，然后回家继续种在荧幕前上网。

上星期和苹到住宅区里取景外拍。我没拍过模特儿，她也没当过模特儿。正好，两个菜鸟，谁也没得嫌弃谁。这次应该算是试拍，趁着要去烧烤会前有点时间，出来实习一下。她当天素颜上场，幸好还有很酷的高跟鞋做焦点。

 

角度拿捏有待改进。幸好模特儿是熟人,换作是不太认识的可能会发脾气，过几天得空可以再来一次。

P.S. 可能是resized的关系，照片表面看起来一块块的，我再想想办法。用Google Chrome浏览就没问题，IE和Mozzila Fox 就不行了。

A-levels成绩今天早上放榜，在预料范围中，只是现在不知道大学那里肯不肯点头。他们要至少ABB，我得AAC（他妈的，又是会计惹的祸），现在唯有阿弥陀佛希望过关。拜托啦，新闻系要会计来干么嘛！

痛苦的一星期终于过去了，而我，失声、感冒、咳嗽（我没有染上猪流感！）。比较起现在的小学生和我们当小学生的时候，不同在于：老师算什么！要打就打呀！是的，当藤鞭失去它应有的威严，那就完蛋了。请看以下精彩片断：

我接下这份工作时，原本以为只是当科任老师，教不同班，不同科目。怎知道是代替级任老师，要教同一班三年级华语、中英数学、道德和一年级中英科学 *晕* >.<

 星期一
完全处于失控状态，吵闹的吵闹，打架的打架。有两个男孩还打到哭，两个欠揍地给我训一顿，向对方道歉后，平静的时刻只维持了5分钟。And the cycle begins again. 每天上演3-5次，不是他拿他的笔，就是他骂他什么的，每天耳边就是“老师！你看！他.…..”。很忙的你知道吗？！！ 他妈的，烦死了！

一年级英语科学课。因为第一次进班就是用英语，他们都以为我不会说中文，所以每次向我投诉别的学生时都很努力地用英文向我叙述。可是.….I have no idea what the hell you were trying to say。
情急之下，我冒出一句：“到底发生什么事啦！”
学生给我这样：O.o 的表情 “咦，老师你会讲华语哦？”
“嗯，那你想跟老师说什么？”
“没事。”跑回原位
鸡蛋糕，来刺探我的吗？莫名其妙！ =.=

星期三
现在的小学都不用黑板的了，全改用白板和马克笔，干净许多。班上还有两台巨型电视机和电脑。阿弥陀佛，观音嫲显灵！我跟其他老师借到“隐形的翅膀”的CD，播半个小时，给他们唱K,小朋友超开心的咧！最重要是我找到把柄了。“还吵！？等下不想唱歌了是吗？要唱就给我闭嘴！”自从那次，我弄了一招来制服他们。在白板的角落画三个格子，每格可以让我写个“吵”字，吵一下就画一笔，一个笔画慢慢加，等到3个“吵”都写完了，当天的奖励将被取消或是实行当天定下的惩罚。今天的奖励时唱歌。终于有耳根清静的半小时了。对半小时而已，算不错了。阿堂妹呀，你也在当临教嘛，试试看这招，可以顶一个星期左右。看看能不能用多一个星期，我再让你知道。

星期四
要命的时间表，从第一节到第五节没空档，两个多小时在同一班，疯了。只有趁下课20分钟喘口气，然后再回到同一班上课。我是从这天起失声的。惩罚也实行了，听写加默写。我心里在O.S : I’m so gonna let you kids suffer，恐龙娜复仇计！不过后来有乖一点了，听写隔天才考，再吵？两样同一天！一年级的舰只不把我当人看，藤鞭在他们面前挥动还跟我笑！当我说“拿出科学作业！”5秒后就有一堆学生排队来问“老师要拿什么出来？”哇劳喂，同一个问题要回答八百遍，佛都有火啦！我超讨厌一年级那班，it’s like, you cannot put any sense into their head，藤鞭，不怕。罚站，站两分钟他不鸟你，不懂跑到那里捣乱了。给功课，没人在听，菜市场还比班上有秩序。我认输，你们吵吧，我等铃声响马上逃离现场。

星期五
数学功课给多多，横式直式统统给我做，一个小时后交不出来，我答应过送神秘小礼物给默写全对的学生，forfeit!当时我没公布谁得奖，大家都有可能哦！XD。好，闭嘴，交上来，可以唱K了。今天念《三字经》和《弟子规》，轻松结束星期五，周末愉快！老师要回家养病了。

后记：一开始时很讨厌他们，但当慢慢认识越来越多学生，知道他们叫什么名，性格怎样，有什么惯例戏码等等，他们就不像第一天那样，只是一群无关痛痒的小孩。星期五最后一节还会苦苦追问：“方老师，你下个星期还有来吗？”。我当没听见。直到一群女生围着我问同样的问题才反问：“那你们要我来吗？”

“要!”

不能说我没有感动了一下，但是..…
